The Last Supper was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci In 1495-1498. It was painted on the wall of a dining room in the Dominican Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milian. It was commissioned by the Duke of Milan, Ludovico Sforza. It was meant to be a part of a family mausoleum reconstructed from a church. It was not a refectory at the time that Leonardo Da Vinci started painting.
“When Jesus had said these things, he was troubled in spirit; and he testified, and said: Amen, amen I say to you, one of you shall betray me. The disciples therefore looked upon one another, doubting of whom he spoke. Now there was lwaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, and said to him: Who is it of whom he speaketh? He therefore, leaning on the breast of Jesus saith to him: Lord, who is it? ~John 13:21-25
